Sustainable Chemistry

Keeping up with compliance requirements in the chemicals sector is a never-ending task. The landscape is continually evolving and companies with chemical compliance needs are required to stay up-to-date with changes from a wide variety of sources.

In the coming years, actors in this field will be required to comply with increased scrutiny on environmental impact and sustainability criteria for their materials.

Companies are also being pushed to move beyond regulatory compliance with their chemical management programs and better understand the role that sustainable chemistry plays in product sustainability. Corporate sustainability goals, client demands, and NGO and consumer pressures are driving the need for holistic chemicals management strategies to:

  • incorporate green chemistry principles
  • drive chemical innovation
  • build a proactive chemical policy
  • understand feedstock risks
  • transition to renewable or more resilient feedstocks
  • go beyond compliance

Our chemical strategy will be one of the most comprehensive in the U.S. retail industry, including all Target-owned and national brand products and operations, not just formulated products.

Global chemical compliance services

Anthesis supports all aspects of EU REACH compliance. For companies manufacturing or using polymers within Europe, proposed changes to EU-REACH will see a new requirement to register these materials which were previously exempt from registration. Anthesis Group Sustainable Chemistry team have long experience of global polymer regulation, and work closely with our product sustainability teams in Apparel and Packaging to support clients to understand this changing regulatory environment

Outside of the EU and with a nearer deadline, more countries have implemented chemical inventories and companies will need to act to ensure that their activities in Turkey, Korea and the UK are operating within the latest regulation. Monitoring these changes and putting chemicals management plans into action is time-consuming and can be difficult for companies with limited specialist resource.

Anthesis supports actors in all areas of the chemicals supply chain. From large EU-REACH consortia where multiple companies are required to work together to achieve compliance for similar substances in Europe, to SME’s with a small inventory looking to out-source all aspects of chemicals management.

Anthesis can manage specific compliance tasks in conjunction with your in-house regulatory teams (for example, acting as Only Representative (OR) for companies outside of Europe) or take on all aspects of chemicals management and allow you to focus on your core competence.

Anthesis has been involved with EU REACH regulation since its inception and has extensive experience in addressing registration issues, authorisations, preparing inquiries and registration dossiers either as part of assignments for consortia or for individual companies.

Our work as Consortium Managers and as Only Representatives has set us apart as a company able to understand and manage the dynamics of SIEFs and Consortia in order to gain best advantage for our clients. The company has long-standing experience as a service provider in the regulatory arena, pre-dating REACH and has managed chemical committees, task forces and consortia since 1994.
