Remuneration Range: $120,000 - 145,000 (Please note salary is paid in local currency USD/CAD)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the integration of Climate Risk into clients’ ERM processes and structures. This will involve stakeholder engagement, understanding organizational dynamics, leading climate screening and materiality assessments, working with analysts and modelers to quantify and qualify risks, then support clients on integrating them into governance, risk management, metrics and targets, and ultimately strategy.
  • As a senior corporate climate risk subject matter expert, provide supervision, guidance and technical leadership to clients as well as colleagues on leading practices, standards, and trends, incorporating this knowledge into consulting projects, proposals and the evolution of new services.
  • Oversee the development of proposals related to climate risk and opportunity, climate risk strategy and reporting including under the TCFD framework, and the implementation of advisory projects. Develop proposals with client managers and generate your own leads with new and existing clients, actively contributing to the business development activities of the global business.
  • Supervise large, complex and dynamic consulting projects throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, QA and closure.

  • Drive quality management processes within the Climate Risk service and lead QA for client deliverables.
  • Perform line management responsibilities for direct reports, including conducting performance reviews and goal setting, and providing mentorship and guidance on career path development.
  • Support the coordination and management of service team members on client projects. Develop and improve our existing approaches to climate scenario analysis for both physical and transition risks and opportunities.
  • Support the development of Anthesis North America’s thought leadership, services, products, marketing materials and offerings in relation to TCFD and other ESG-linked standards and frameworks, and the low-carbon transition.
  • Collaborate with other regional Climate Risk leaders and teams.
  • Ensure integration of Climate Risk-related services with other Climate and ESG solutions which form part of the wider client journey.
  • Responsible for financial and strategic success for relevant aspects of the business.

Summary of Role:

We are looking for an Associate Director to lead client engagements and support the further development of our Climate Risk services. This role will help bring innovative products and services to market, so that our clients can anticipate, address and efficiently measure, disclose and take action over their relevant climate change risks and opportunities. You will be leading client engagements focusing on integrating climate risk into corporate enterprise risk management structures for a diverse set of clients and industries; Fortune 500 companies to boutique brands, and require engagement with clients, their suppliers, and their various stakeholders (employees, investors, associations and NGOs) around the world.

While much of our work comes from a wide portfolio of existing clients, you would be expected to lead and contribute to requests for proposals and pitches. Feeding into our positioning and presentation will also be essential, as well as contributing to developing a leading profile for Anthesis in the market-place. In addition, you will be building capacity within the North American Climate Risk team to allow Anthesis to expand our strategic relationships across our client portfolio. We have a growing team of consultants and analysts who interface and collaborate with our Strategy and Climate practices, which you will support. While the primary focus is on the North American market, many of our clients are international, meaning there is frequent interaction and knowledge sharing with our Climate Risk team in Europe. Your projects and clients will span across a diverse set of industries, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to boutique brands, and require engagement with clients, their suppliers, and their various stakeholders (employees, investors, associations and NGOs) around the world.

Finally, Anthesis is pursuing a digitization strategy, and your role will help identify our approach to partnering, building or acquiring digital products that allow us to compete on information services.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience creating and implementing business models and processes that integrate sustainability & risk principles into business value proposition.
  • Competency at building relationships across functions within client organizations to enable opportunities for improvement and expanding our scope of services.
  • Industry-relevant connections, with a network of potential clients, collaborators and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience providing corporate sustainability support in some or all of the following:
    • Physical and transition climate change risks and opportunities
    • Financial analysis including analysis of climate change risks and opportunities o Business Continuity or Business Resilience Planning
    • Strategy development, strategic goal setting and KPI selection on priority climate-related topics (e.g. Science-based Targets)
    • Sustainability/ ESG reporting using leading frameworks e.g., GRI, SASB, Integrated Reporting and TCFD,
    • Responses to key ESG surveys, inquiries and leading ranker/ ratings agencies e.g., CDP, S&P/DJSI, EcoVadis, MSCI, JUST and others
  • Well presented with a professional manner to act as a brand ambassador which flexes and is appropriate for the specific client environment and circumstances.

Knowledge, Education and Desired Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ experience in a related financial services or enterprise risk management role, ideally with additional experience as a sustainability/ESG practitioner, ideally in a consultancy environment.
  • Degree, ideally at a Master’s level or higher, in a sustainability-related field in Sustainable Finance, Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Economics, Financial Risk Management, ESG strategy or other sustainability-related disciplines senior Business Administration.
  • Ability to work at and navigate all levels of an organization, driving decisions and direction through influence, including executive and senior business stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills, interpersonal skills, and a professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise.
  • Experience in corporate risk management and organizational behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial modelling or validating financial models built by teams of experts.
  • Previous background or passion for sustainability preferred.
  • Curious, globally minded, and enthusiastic.
  • Organized, methodical, and analytical.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to respond positively to pressure and take a flexible approach to a dynamic, fast moving and changing work environment.
