Role: Associate Director/Director – Packaging Sustainability – Service Line Lead

Location: Remote - USA or Canada based

Contract: Full-time

Remuneration Range: Associate Director $120,000 - $140,000 / Director $140,000 - $165,000 (Salary is paid in local currency USD/CAD)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear leadership and direction to your Service Line team members on all aspects of our work related to this role, including (but not limited to) business development, technical subject matter expertise, project delivery, quality assurance and client management
  • Managing Service Line resources with particular attention to recruitment and retention to maximize opportunity, project delivery and profitability
  • Performing people management responsibilities for the Service Line
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or the company
  • Managing key client relationships and projects, in consultation with the SPPC Solution Leader and the Solution Operations Leader
  • Developing and deploying packaging sustainability solutions to help clients realize business value and impact.
  • Developing and driving the Service Line strategy, go to market and business plan, in close collaboration with the Solution Leader and the Solution Operations Leader
  • Leading business development activities related to the sustainable packaging offerings, including sales calls, actively engaging with new and existing clients to establish and/or grow the relationships in accordance with our client management approach, and developing and/or stewarding proposals and marketing materials
  • Managing the Service Line’s financial and operational activities, working closely with the Solution Operations Leader and internal support resources as may be appropriate
  • Define leading offerings to take to the market, including developing supporting materials, e.g. sales materials, proposal, budget, and deliverable templates, etc. as well as monitoring market developments to evolve the current offerings, tools and approaches to meet and exceed client needs
  • Contributing to thought leadership on your offering internally and externally
  • Responsible for all aspects of quality assurance for the Service Line’s offerings
  • Recruit, develop/ mentor, retain and manage talent, to achieve performance excellence, within the Service Line, and under the guidance of the Solution Operations Leader
  • Establishing close ties and work collaboratively with other Service Line Leaders, in the NA region, and their equivalents, in other regions, and share best practices as well as lessons learned

Summary of Role:

To meet the high demand for our packaging sustainability expertise from North America and global clients, we are looking to recruit a Service Line Leader for our Sustainable Packaging Service Line at the Associate Director/Director level. The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record of helping companies develop more sustainable packaging (e.g. less hazardous materials, better recyclability, more circular business models), as well as having a clear understanding of new packaging development.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who wants to flourish in a technical analytics environment at the leading edge of sustainability. You will have a relevant background in sustainable packaging development, and recent experience integrating sustainability features/performance into packaging, and preferably business development experience around packaging sustainability (e.g. responding to specific market demand for a more sustainable packaging and/or selling packaging sustainability services to clients). You will be expected to keep abreast of changing packaging sustainability market, regulatory, and technology developments, and implement strategic and tactical initiatives in response to emerging opportunities. An understanding and experience of effective project management is essential.

Key Requirements:

  • Demonstrable leadership ability
  • Experience in leading teams to create more sustainable packaging
  • Able to drive operational effectiveness, leading to operational excellence
  • Working knowledge of the competing objectives in the development of new packaging
  • An international perspective on packaging sustainability drivers
  • 10+ years’ practical experience in sustainable packaging development and/or other aspects of creating more sustainable packaging.
  • Engineering/chemistry or other relevant degree
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to provide robust evidence to underpin business decisions
  • Excellent client and project manager
  • Adept at managing internal and external relationships
