Role: Carbon Consultant

Location: Belgium

This role is flexibly remote from our office in Leuven, Belgium. It will also require travel to the Netherlands.

Contract: Full-time

Key responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for assignments with CNG customers (focus BE but also international), within your own domain/expertise.
  • You know how to translate complex customer issues into solutions and how to fulfil the customer’s ambitions .
  • You know how to guide an assignment from start to finish for CNG’s clients with passion and knowledge.
  • You maintain contacts with existing customers and you are able to acquire follow-up projects from the customer by further developing the customer relationship.
  • You will be the expert on a specific topic and convey this expertise both inside and outside CNG.
  • You proactively inform the manager Consultancy about the progress of the trajectories and the potential bottlenecks.
  • You will develop proposals on climate strategies and carbon reduction for clients.
  • From A to Z, you will supervise projects at clients: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, control and closure.
  • You actively contribute to the further growth of CNG BE and are willing to participate in industry networking events.

Summary of role:

The Carbon Consultant is responsible for the rollout and development of the Net Zero strategy among CNG Belgium’s customers, helping customers to achieve climate targets with the ambition of being climate neutral by 2050. You will help CNG to gain even more of a foothold in BE, building on the project together.

The aim of the consultant is to guide organisations in Belgium on their climate journey by advising on their carbon footprint, drawing up plans for reducing greenhouse gases and setting targets according to the Paris Climate Agreement. This includes a variety of tasks such as finding and analysing data,writing reports and proposals, organising and participating in workshops and presenting the results to the client.

You play an important role throughout the entire process: from determining the approach, estimating the time investment on the CNG side and that of the client, drawing up a schedule, executing the assignment, monitoring quality and progress to delivering the assignment. You also actively look for opportunities within your projects and network and actively create your network in Belgium – you should be familiar with the term Consultative Selling and feel comfortable with it.

You will also have thorough knowledge of Climate Neutral Group’s total proposition (insight, reduction,compensation and certification) and know how to translate this knowledge into advice (strategy and implementation) tailored to the client.

You will report into the Manager Consultancy (Netherlands) based and you work from the Belgian office in De Hoorn, Leuven but are willing to travel to NL regularly for team meetings and consultations. You will join a team of 2 people in Belgium but sit within the wider CNG team which is approximately 15 people. CNG has been around for more than 20 years, which translates into solid expertise on sustainability in the company. Key requirements:

  • You hold a bachelor/master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in an engineering, environmental science, economics or other sustainability-related discipline.
  • Knowledge of climate impact and drive for sustainability
  • Min 4-5 years’ experience as Consultant, CSR responsible, or similar position
  • Experience in realising CSR/sustainability trajectories, consultative selling, advisory trajectories.
  • Able to easily interact with different departments and levels within organisations up toboard level.
  • Experience with (setting up) sustainability reporting and/or Carbon Reporting is a plus.
  • Experience in one or more of the following sectors is a plus: food, build, banking & finance
  • Tactical and analytical strength combined with a commercial and entrepreneurial feel
  • Passionate about topics such as: climate change, circular economy, energy transition, sustainability, etc.
  • Team player within a growing team, able to work independently
  • Ability to function in a small organisation with big ambitions
  • Excellent verbal and written command of Dutch
  • A professional command of French and/or English are a plus
  • Is willing to travel by public transport. A pool car is available for business appointments.
  • You are willing to travel to NL regularly for consultant consultations (in consultation and possibly combined with overnight stay)
  • Time management, pro-activeness, reliability and collegiality characterise your working attitude.
