Human Rights & Ethical Trade Lead

Role: Human Rights & Ethical Trade Lead

Location: Remote - USA or Canada based

Practice Area: Supply Chain & Operations

Contract: Full-time

Remuneration Range: $100,000 - 120,000 (Please note salary is paid in local currency USD/CAD)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Subject Matter Expertise (SME) – You will serve as a SME in supplier responsibility strategies, working alongside clients to evaluate their in-house and supply chain operations, and designing policies programs and strategies that align human rights, ethical trade and behavior, and promoting decent working conditions within broader ESG objectives. You will advise in carrying out human rights impact assessments, social audits, analyzing salient risks, and developing remediation strategies for clients. You will support organizational capacity building on topics such as ethical trade, gender equality, human rights, living wage, modern slavery, purchasing practices, and supplier diversity and inclusion.
  • Project Management – As a Principal Consultant in our Human Rights Service Line within our Social Impact Center of Excellence, you will be expected to manage the delivery of moderately-sized or complex client engagements targeted at improving ESG performance and disclosure, specifically in the areas of social impact and human rights. You will be responsible for these projects being on time, budget, and schedule. Your role will involve managing several projects and dedicated project teams at any one time. You will be expected to perform senior level review of client work products. 
  • Client Management – You will lead and grow client relationships, managing client expectations and delivering on their ESG goals and objectives and acting as the primary point of contact. You will be responsible for delivering proposals that demonstrate an understanding of the client’s business and tailored scopes of work to achieve their goals. You will work to develop a trusted advisor relationship with all clients and focus relentlessly on helping them be successful in defining and achieving their sustainability goals.  
  • ESG Performance – You will advise clients how to prioritize, evaluate and improve their social impact and human rights This will include desktop research, internal and external stakeholder engagement, and the integration of advanced data analytics.  
  • Business Development – You will be responsible for the development and delivery of proposals for potential clients and projects and represent Anthesis during interviews as the consultancy best positioned to support. You will expand scopes of engagement with existing clients, helping them drive their sustainability agenda. You will support team development through competency building, training and mentoring.

Key Requirements:

  • 8 + years of experience as a sustainability practitioner, with experience leading a company’s ESG strategy and disclosures. 
  • Expertise in assessing and mitigating key sustainability risks with respect to suppliers, including human rights in a supplier base.
  • Experience developing equitable and inclusive procurement practices to strengthen responsible sourcing programs by enhancing associated processes, technology, and policies, and specifically work with category teams to execute Tier 1 and tier 2 responsible and diverse supplier strategies.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide assessments that evaluate human rights impacts across a company’s value chain, including all business lines, functions, operations, supply chains, and sale of products and services.
  • Ability to work closely with client procurement teams to educate, influence and provide guidance to support the attainment of diverse spend targets while maintaining the diverse supply base to increase capability development and create opportunities for gaining business.
  • Willingness to travel to support clients, up to 20% of the time

Knowledge, Education and Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to identify and articulate opportunities to improve ESG disclosure and performance. 
  • Proficiency in some of the following disclosures: CHRB, CDP (Climate, Water, Forest), S&P Global CSA (DJSI), FTSE ESG, MSCI, ICMM, KnowTheChain, OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains, UNGC, VPSHR. 
  • Proficiency in the following reporting standards or frameworks: Integrated Reporting, GRI, SASB, TCFD. 
  • Familiarity with existing and pending ESG disclosure requirements: SFDR, CSRD, ISSB,etc. 
  • Proven track record as a thought leader in ESG.
  • A personable and passionate individual that works well with teams.
  • Comfortable and confident liaising with key stakeholders across all levels of a business.  
  • Ability to work with diverse colleagues and clients who live and work across various time zones and work settings
  • An ability to manage a variety of projects at any one time.
