Remuneration Range: $100,000 - 120,000 (Please note that salary is paid in local currency USD/CAD)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the modeling and integration of climate risk understanding into clients’ ERM processes and structures.
  • Translate qualitative policy and transition related risks, quantitative climate data and climate-related opportunities into financial impacts, aiding clients in understanding how their organization’s financial performance and positioning may be affected by climate over the short-, medium-, and long-term planning horizons.
  • As a senior corporate climate risk subject matter expert, provide supervision, guidance and technical leadership to clients as well as colleagues on leading practices, standards, and trends, incorporating this knowledge into consulting projects, proposals and the evolution of new services.
  • Take the lead in the development of proposals related to climate risk and opportunity, climate risk strategy and reporting including under the TCFD framework, and the implementation of advisory projects. Develop proposals with client managers and generate your own leads with new and existing clients, actively contributing to the business development activities of the global business.
  • Drive quality management processes within the Climate Risk service and lead QA for client deliverables with respect to scenario modeling.
  • Perform line management responsibilities for direct reports, including conducting performance reviews and goal setting, and providing mentorship and guidance on career path development.
  • Support the coordination and management of service team members on client projects. Develop and improve our existing approaches to climate scenario analysis for both physical and transition risks and opportunities.
  • Support the development of Anthesis North America’s thought leadership, services, products, marketing materials and offerings in relation to TCFD and other ESG-linked standards and frameworks, and the low-carbon transition.
  • Collaborate with other regional Climate Risk leaders and teams.
  • Ensure integration of Climate Risk-related services with other Climate and ESG solutions which form part of the wider client journey.

Summary of Role:

We are looking for a Principal Consultant/ Associate Director to lead the climate risk modeling activities for our diverse portfolio of international clients. Developing and working with quantitative and qualitative models, this role will manage detailed scenario analyses of both climate-related physical and transitional risk and opportunities, developing financial impact pathways that support strategic transition planning toward a low carbon world. You will work with our Climate Risk team who carry out stakeholder engagement, climate risk assessment and strategy development activities to identify and target key risks for modeling financial risk. Using a variety of platforms and data sources, including third party partners, your role is to bring to life the financial risks and opportunities climate change poses as our client seek to use their science-based targets and net zero ambitions as risk mitigation approaches.

While much of our work comes from a wide portfolio of existing clients – from Fortune 500 companies to boutique brands – you would be expected to lead and contribute to requests for proposals and pitches. Feeding into our positioning and presentation will also be essential, as well as contributing to developing a leading profile for Anthesis in the market-place. In addition, you will be building capacity within the North American Climate Risk team to allow Anthesis to expand our strategic relationships across our client portfolio. We have a growing team of consultants and analysts who interface and collaborate with our Strategy and Climate practices, which you will support. While the primary focus is on the North American market, many of our clients are international, meaning there is frequent interaction and knowledge sharing with our Climate Risk team in Europe. Finally, Anthesis is pursuing a digitization strategy, and your role will help identify our approach to partnering, building or acquiring digital products that allow us to compete on information services.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience creating and implementing financial models and processes that integrate sustainability & risk principles into business value proposition.
  • Competency at building relationships across functions within client organizations to enable opportunities for improvement and expanding our scope of services.
  • Industry-relevant connections, with a network of potential clients, collaborators and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience providing corporate sustainability support in some or all of the following:
    • Physical and transition climate change risks and opportunities
    • Financial analysis including analysis of energy, sustainability, net zero transition, and/or climate change risks and opportunities
    • Business Continuity or Business Resilience Planning
    • Strategy development, strategic goal setting and KPI selection on priority climate-related topics (e.g. Science-based Targets)
    • Sustainability/ ESG reporting using leading frameworks e.g., GRI, SASB, Integrated Reporting and TCFD,
    • Responses to key ESG surveys, inquiries and leading ranker/ ratings agencies e.g., CDP, S&P/DJSI, EcoVadis, MSCI, JUST and others
  • Previous background or passion for sustainability preferred.

Knowledge, Education & Desired Qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ experience in a related financial and/or non-financial modeling services role, ideally with experience as a sustainability/ESG practitioner, ideally in a consultancy environment.
  • Degree, ideally at a Master’s level or higher, in a sustainability-related field in Sustainable Finance, Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Economics, Financial Risk Modeling or other sustainabilityrelated disciplines.
  • Experience in climate models, including NGFS, SSPs, RCPs, IEA
  • Experience of TCFD, ISSB and CSRD reporting frameworks.
  • Ability to work at and navigate all levels of an organization, driving decisions and direction through influence, including executive and senior business stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills, interpersonal skills, and a professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise.
  • Model build experience using Django/Python, R, MATLAB or SAS, as well as Machine Learning / Advanced Analytics experience. Good understanding of analytics and data technology infrastructure.
