Role: Sales & Customer Success Manager – AgriCarbon

Location: Cape Town, South Africa

Contract: Full-time

Remuneration Range: Competitive

Responsibilities

Manage the AgriCarbon Commercial Department;

  • Draft and deliver on the agreed budget once it has been approved
  • Manage, recruit, motivate and retain staff which includes the Onboarding team and Account Managers
  • Lead the development of a detailed plan/strategy to document how CNG can scale AgriCarbon across South Africa
  • Define and understand the market opportunity
  • Oversee / lead customers through the sales process from external discovery through to signed contract, onboarding, and contract renewals
  • Spearhead customers’ escalations/issues and collaborate with team to drive them to an expeditious resolution
  • Make commercially astute decisions relating to your department as well as the broader programme within agreed parameters
  • Manage and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting on the status and performance of your division
  • Keep the CEO and/or AgriCarbon Programme Manager informed about all issues that provide a threat to delivering on the budget
  • Develop, refine and implement the sales and marketing strategy
  • Oversee the development and implementation an AgriCarbon farmer support programme to assist farmers on their regenerative farming journey (“customer success journey”) working closely with our Agronomists and Soil Scientists

Build a thorough understanding of the AgriCarbon brand and service offering;

  • Work closely with the AgriCarbon Marketing team and help refine and expand the Marketing Strategy
  • Understand the market opportunity available and prioritise the business development strategy in consultation with the other departments
  • Have a solid understanding of the ag ecosystem of agribusiness

Lead the Partner Sales route for AgriCarbon partners;

  • Oversee and work closely with the AgriCarbon Partnerships & Integrations team
  • Build deep relationships with various partners, such as Ag service providers, farmer associations, industry bodies etc, at local and regional level
  • Coach partners to increase enrolments, differentiate competitive offerings, and build relationships
  •  Help create & communicate relevant information around enrolment and eligibility that matches the partners farmers segmentation and seasonal opportunities
  • Help partners achieve their KPI and carbon targets with customized strategies
  • Support Partners at events, field days, and webinars

Lead the Farmer Sales Route;

  • As part of your farmer direct route to market you will, oversee all new and existing farmer customers
  • Develop high quality presentations that
  • Accurately and compellingly present the AgriCarbon programme and benefits to farmers
  • Articulate the value proposition of the AgriCarbon programme to a farmer’s unique situation
  • Support farmers at field events and webinars

Close and begin farmer onboarding;

  • Educate/enable farmers to effectively enrol their farms
  • Ensure an effective eligibility assessment process for farmer enrolment
  • Achieve KPIs and carbon targets with customized strategies and prospecting
  • Oversee the activities of the onboarding team, and / or (Key) Account Managers to ensure effective handover to the Data & Analytics Teams

Job summary

The Sales & Customer Success Manager’s main objective is to grow CNG’s AgriCarbon business in South Africa. You will lead the AgriCarbon commercial department, with full responsibility for the delivery of the agreed targets and budget, as well as the development and implementation of the go-to-market strategy to sign-up new farmers and partner organisations. You will be expected to focus on our farmer clients – current and future – to understand their needs and build our business to meet those needs. You will collaborate closely with the Carbon, Research, Agronomy and Data teams to drive operational efficiency and data driven decision making through AgriCarbon’s Digital Data Collection Platform.

The position requires someone with extensive experience in heading up a sales / business development department, ideally with exposure to the commercial agriculture space. Excellent in-person and remote communication skills are crucial, as are good business management skills and commercial flair. The successful candidate will be highly skilled and confident in establishing partnerships, with a proven ability to close, as well as demonstrating crossfunctional leadership to drive growth across a range of industry partners.

  • Flexible to support customers after hours to resolve time-sensitive matters, and to travel for customer engagement and industry events
  • Passionately wants to win, has a vision, and can articulate an action plan, proven ability to motivate a cross functional team to achieve goals
  • Ability to leverage shared successes to elevate the broader team’s performance
  • Fluency in Afrikaans an added advantage

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years track record in the management of a sales/business development unit or department, working with strategic / complex accounts or consulting experience
  • B2B sales, key account management and demonstrated consistent success in achieving quarterly and annual targets in a fast growing business
  • Relevant tertiary qualification(s) essential
  • Proven ability to deliver on the budget and to manage a team
  • Understand farming as a business a big plus
  • Passion for developing new accounts and industry relationships
  • Proof of prior success driving growth and convincing partners to adopt new approaches/technologies
  • Experience using sales support CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tools
  • Ability to travel regularly for extended periods
