Role: Senior Consultant – Food Loss and Waste

Location: Flexibly remote from one of our UK hubs (Bristol, Edinburgh, Harrogate, London, Manchester or Oxford)

Contract: Full-time

Remuneration Range: Competitive

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing technical expertise and leading client work focused on quantification of food surplus from agriculture, manufacturers, retailers, 3rd party logistics businesses etc.;
  • Identifying, and leading the development of, innovative approaches to preventing food surpluses from becoming waste through full value chain appraisal;
  • Working with other waste expert colleagues to evaluate the effectiveness of relevant approaches for residual food waste management and treatment;
  • Identifying innovative practices and novel processes to manage food loss and waste throughout the entire food value chain
  • Being at the forefront of legal requirements and constraints surrounding the management of food surplus/waste, including food labelling.
  • Keeping your finger on the pulse of existing and emerging initiatives e.g. “Champions 12.3”, “10x20x30”, “Target, Measure, Act” approaches

Summary of role

We are looking for a Senior Consultant to join the business. This will be a new role to support our growing food loss and waste practice with a focus on the delivery of existing work and assisting in the generation of new client opportunities through business and bid development activities.

The ideal candidate will be someone who wants to continue to develop their career in the agrifood sector, with a particular focus and demonstrable expertise in food loss and waste. They will use their knowledge to drive sustainable performance whilst being comfortable working in multi-stakeholder environments to manage multiple client projects and tasks. They will have a relevant background in the sector and practical experience of embedding food waste related initiatives that drive positive impact.

The role will require strategic and delivery leadership, with the successful candidate having demonstrable experience in consultancy, business development, project, operational and stakeholder management. You will ensure clients receive high quality outcomes on time and within budget, whilst also having the opportunity to develop new client relationships and activities. Given the nature of the work and team, the candidate will also have the flexibility to support others deliver existing food waste project work.

Key requirements:

  • 4-5 years’ experience in sustainability roles within the agrifood sector, with a particular focus on food loss and waste
  • Environmental/sustainability/food related degree
  • Technical knowledge of the food sector and food waste related challenges
  • Excellent project management skills (including: client engagement, team work, delivery)
  • High quality and professional report writing (MS Word, MS PowerPoint)
  • Data analysis

Desirable skills

  • An International perspective on global food waste issues and solutions
  • Previous food waste related consultancy experience
  • Understanding of the circular economy within the food sector
