Role: Senior Data Architect

Location: Cape Town, South Africa

Contract: Full-time

Remuneration Range: Competitive

Key responsibilities:

Data Architecture and Strategy:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, efficient, and secure data architecture solutions on our cloud-based platform.
  • Support the data strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and data best practices.

Azure Platform Expertise:

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and experience in leveraging cloud services, tools, and technologies to build and optimise data solutions.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate cloud services based on project requirements and performance considerations.

Software Development and DevOps:

  • Utilise your extensive software development background to design and develop data solutions, data pipelines, and data integration processes.
  • Advocate and implement DevOps principles and practices for continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automated deployment of data solutions.

Data Analytics:

  • Work closely with data analysts and data scientists to understand data requirements and create data models that support analytics needs.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across the data platform and analytics solutions.

People Management and Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and architects, providing technical guidance, coaching, and professional development.
  • Foster a positive team culture and ensure effective collaboration within the data architecture and engineering team.
  • Support the head of data with management tasks and generating policy and ways of working that drive efficient delivery

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with business stakeholders to gather data requirements, understand data usage patterns, and ensure data solutions meet their needs.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to explain complex data concepts and solutions.

Summary of role:

As the Senior Data Architect at Climate Neutral Group, you will be a key member of the Data team, support the running of our Carbon Emission models that generate carbon credits for our farming clients in South Africa and abroad. You will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure and architecture on our cloud platform. Your expertise in software development, DevOps, analytics, and people management will be instrumental in driving the success of our data initiatives and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

 

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven 7-10 years of hands-on experience in data architecture, software development, and DevOps within a cloud-based platform.
  • Strong expertise in Cloud Based services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, AWS, Google Analytics.
  • Extensive knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing and leading technical teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to design creative and innovative data solutions.
  • Solid understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance best practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
