Anthesis is supporting Aerofoil™ Energy with their expansion into the North American market and are looking for a Technical Sales Director, to support sales and operational activities with a number of our retail clients. The successful candidate will be an employee of Anthesis seconded on a full-time basis to the Aerofoil™ Energy team. The individual will be based in our Boston office but expected to travel.


Aerofoil™ Energy is an Award-Winning British tech start-up company partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering.

Aerofoil™ technology for use in refrigeration, was conceived using the principles of aerodynamics in aircraft. Aerofoil™s have very powerful effects on moving airstreams. They are able to reduce turbulence and straighten falling air curtains back into shape. The Aerofoil™s designed by Aerofoil™ Energy in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering are carefully engineered profiles that control the direction of air flow, reducing cold air spillage by guiding the air streams into the air return grille instead of allowing the cold air to fall out of the fridge and be wasted. Aerofoil™s have also been shown to reduce warm air mixing with the air curtain.

Aerofoil Energy has had exceptional success in the United Kingdom over the past 18 months with a number of UK food retail clients adopting the technology across their estates. The business is now seeking to expand into the United States and is already in the early, and thus far successful, stages of trials with certain large food retail clients.

Summary of role

Anthesis is therefore seeking a Technical Sales Director to work with prospective clients to understand their refrigeration shelf edge needs and to tailor the Aerofoil product to adapt to their requirements. Following small scale or laboratory testing the individual will be expected to project manage any larger store trials and ultimately work with contracting partners to support full roll outs that may proceed thereafter. This will involve working closely with the client on the project management of any store work, project scheduling, oversight of the client’s chosen surveying and installation teams and the procurement of Aerofoils, initially from the UK, for a period of 1-3 months. The role will work very closely with the UK Aerofoil Energy operations team who will assist with purchase ordering and invoicing; however, the individual will be responsible for overall management of any order budget agreed with the client.

The individual is expected to travel 80% of their time.


  • Work with clients to understand their refrigeration requirements in store and, to the extent necessary, how Aerofoil products should be adapted to achieve the clients aims.
  • Assisting clients with any early stages testing in laboratory or early/small store trials through to agreed designs and costs.
  • Develop project plans for large scale testing or roll outs in store.
  • Training survey and installation teams, providing them with written guidelines for their work and ensuring client requirements in store or fully understood.
  • If installation is sub-contracted then manage the identification, appointment and pricing of contracts subject to approvals.
  • Undertaking on-site visits, whether or not installation is sub-contracted, to ensure the product is being properly and correctly installed and that all regulatory and safety requirements are being adhered to if required.
  • Provide stakeholders with regular reports on projects including progress against budget, deadlines and issue resolution
  • Reporting on all activities at least weekly.

  • Minimum of five years’ food retail experience required
  • Strong personal & professional network in US across food retail/ refrigeration/ store care
  • Engineering degree preferred
  • Experience in capital projects, BHR (building, HVAC and refrigeration) projects or similar preferred
  • Ability to use shared workflow technology (Microsoft Office, SharePoint and iCloud) as well as project management software; Auto-Cad experience beneficial (not required)
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of construction plans and documents
  • Ability to conceptualize, document, present and implement creative solutions
  • Ability to seek out information, clarity, drive decisions by working through issues with project team, stakeholders and management
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence
  • Demonstrated ability with written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and a desire to go above and beyond for the client, is essential
