Historically, private equity and other fund managers looking to demonstrate their environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance to their LPs and other stakeholders would often reach out to their portfolio companies.
They would collate a series of case studies of positive initiatives they had delivered and complement these with a narrative on their own volunteering and charitable activities.
However, LPs and other stakeholders are no longer satisfied with such an approach and are looking to see that investment managers have considered what ESG issues are material in each asset or portfolio company and have implemented targets to achieve improvement.
