Associate Director - North America
Maarten is a seasoned Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) strategist with a background in marketing and corporate communications. He has developed and managed global social impact & sustainability programs for organizations like Heineken, PepsiCo, Edelman, and the United Nations World Food Program. He excels in making sustainability understandable and inclusive for everyone, resulting in effective partnerships between internal departments, increased employee engagement, and higher levels of overall trust & reputation. At Anthesis, Maarten is an Associate Director on the ESG & Sustainability Strategy Setting team.
Before joining Anthesis, Maarten led his own ESG strategy consultancy (M/S/C), building authentic programs with economic, social, and environmental benefits for his clients’ internal and external stakeholders. Prior to M/S/C, Maarten spent 9 years at Edelman. As Vice President Global Citizenship, he advanced the company’s environmental, social and governance policies & practices for its 65 offices worldwide.
In recent years he collaborated closely with United Nations Global Compact, Impact 2030, Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship, B Lab (B Corp Certification), GRI, Ecovadis, CDP and Carbon Trust Standard.
Maarten holds a master’s degree (MSc) in Marketing Management from Nyenrode Business University and a bachelor’s degree (BSc) in International Business Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
