Decarbonising the Public Sector Webinar series
In October 2020, the UK government announced the launch of a new funding scheme, offering £1bn of grant funding for the UK public sector. The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) will provide funding for public sector energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation projects for non-domestic public sector buildings in England, administered by Salix.
To support our public sector network to maximise the opportunity of this funding and the carbon saving potential that it offers, Anthesis hosted a series of webinars to share our expertise and experience.
Through these sessions, we looked at the mechanics of the scheme, how applicants can optimise funding applications and how public sector organisations can make the best use of the capital funding to deliver the greatest impact.

Maximising the Opportunity of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme
Join Ben Lynch, Director for Energy Systems, and Huw Blackwell, Principal Engineer, to hear how organisations can identify projects that maximise the opportunity of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme Capital Grant and Low Carbon Skills Fund. We also take a deeper dive on an approach to whole-building retrofit that aligns with current best practice.
This webinar covers:
- Utilising a combined approach to make the best use of the technologies supported by the Salix funding
- How organisations can refine their application and review the associated risks and challenges
- A simplified approach to retrofitting buildings, which maximises the impact of the measures in buildings whilst minimising the complexity of implementation
Huw calls on his recent experience of working with the London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI) on Net Zero carbon building pilots in the London Borough of Southwark.

A Focus on Heat Decarbonisation
Heat decarbonisation is a central theme of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, and one that Anthesis is whole-heartedly supportive of. The challenge of heat decarbonisation in the built environment is a consistent factor in the net zero action plans we have developed for public sector clients.
In this webinar, we set out the learnings from 15 years of delivering low carbon heating systems across social housing, civic buildings, health care and university campuses, supported by technology providers that we have built confidence in.
We look at simple controls and building management interventions, building physics and insulation and key heat generation technologies, including heat pumps, solar thermal and PVT.

Energy Efficiency and Demand-side Reduction – Quick Wins and High Persistence Factors
It is well publicised that significant opportunity for decarbonisation in the public estate still exists through simple, low-cost energy measures. This funding offers a fantastic opportunity to deliver energy efficiency programmes that previously would have sat on the margins of ROI and payback assessments.
In this webinar, we explore the combination of energy efficiency technologies that could be implemented across public sector estates, which now have a much stronger business case through the design of the PSDS eligibility criteria. We also look at how these solutions can be deployed across estates or campuses to maximise impact.
