What is the UNGC Communication on Progress?
The United Nations Global Compact is an organisation that aims to mobilise a global movement of companies and stakeholders who are committed to sustainability. The UNGC requires participating companies to produce a Communication on Progress (COP), a public, annual report which demonstrates their corporate sustainability through embedding the Global Compact’s Ten Principles into their business.
This year marks Anthesis’ fourth publication of the UNGC Communication on Progress report.
The 2021 report focuses on our progress as a business over the past 21 months, an extraordinary period like no other. Despite the relentlessness of the COVID-19 pandemic, our commitment to the ten UNGC principles remains as strong as ever. Our report focuses on the UK operation; however, for businesses globally, this has been a period of intense resilience, courage, and commitment. Never has this been a more important time to lean on our ‘Anthesis Spirit’. Our Anthesis Spirit Playbook was launched in early 2020 as a guide to define our shared values and purpose in the way we operate.
Our Progress: Corporate Responsibility
We continue to grow as a business, both in market share and our passion for driving societal impact. Anthesis is committed to amplifying its impact to tackle the world’s climate emergency, and our 600+ colleagues are focused on making sustainability happen.
During the summer of 2020, in response to prevalent racial injustice, we established a global Racial Justice Working Group to escalate our attention and efforts on this topic. This is in addition to the activities we delivered on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion agenda to strengthen our diversity, build awareness and foster inclusion.
Our report showcases some of the impactful Corporate Responsibility and employee engagement initiatives launched, including a campaign to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Zero Hunger, delivering 30 activities and benefiting 17 charities globally.
In early 2021, Anthesis became a fully certified B Corporation® , joining a global group of 4,000+ organisations that value purpose as much as profit. Becoming a B Corp cements our dual focus of guiding our clients on their sustainability journey and standing firm behind our own. Our Corporate Responsibility Programme has seen considerable development during this period, led by a global Steering Committee, to ensure we meet the highest social and environmental performance standards, transparency, and accountability across our worldwide organisation.
Our Progress: Recognition and Ambitions
Our progress continues to be acknowledged through many accolades, including The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 and International Track 200, and the FT1000 Fastest Growing Companies in Europe, with Anthesis identified as one of only 28 companies to hold this accolade for four consecutive years. Even during these exceptional times, we are experiencing double digital growth, and, through our recent investment from Palatine Private Equity, we’re turbocharging our focus across the decade’s most material global systems: net-zero impact; carbon remediation; product circularity; land use; and inclusive economies.
