Before developing a sustainability strategy and goals, many organisations need to get clarity on their sustainability vision and level of ambition. Not every company will seek to be a leader among its peers—the ambition will be influenced by many factors, including organisational culture, external stakeholder pressures, business model, and company size. And you may have a vision to be a transformative leader on one aspect of sustainability, while meeting basic expectations for responsibility on others.

How we do it

To define the vision and ambition, we typically:

  • Engage your senior leadership team and other key internal stakeholders to co-create a vision and define a level of ambition, which can range from incremental change to radical transformation.
  • Help them to understand the internal and external drivers, future trends, leading practices of competitors and peers, and the business case for change.
  • Present potential options and facilitate a conversation to build alignment on where the organisation would like to go in the medium to long-term.
