Anthesis welcomes Dr Sean Carlisle as Associate Director for Ecology and Head of Ecology and Nature

10 February 2026

Anthesis is pleased to welcome Dr Sean Carlisle as Associate Director for Ecology and Head of Ecology and Nature, strengthening our growing nature and biodiversity capability across the Middle East.

Sean is a senior terrestrial ecologist with more than 15 years of international experience, providing leadership on complex biodiversity and ecosystem programmes across Europe and the Middle East. He brings a strong combination of technical authority and strategic leadership, advising clients in alignment with key global policy and finance frameworks, including the Convention on Biological Diversity, Convention on Migratory Species, the EU LIFE Programme and IFC Performance Standards.

In his role, Sean will play a key leadership role in advancing Anthesis’ regional and global nature agenda, working closely with senior colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to embed biodiversity considerations into major programmes, investment decisions and long-term sustainability strategies.

Sean brings deep ecological expertise and proven leadership across some of the most complex biodiversity and infrastructure challenges in the region. His ability to translate ecological science into practical, decision-ready outcomes will be instrumental as we continue to support clients in managing biodiversity risk and delivering positive outcomes for nature.ā€

Simon Pickup, Climate and Nature Lead at Anthesis

Sean has led the delivery of ecological inputs for large-scale infrastructure and development projects, including cities, ports, canals, transport and energy developments, often operating in challenging regulatory and environmental contexts. He is widely recognised as a trusted advisor to public, private and third-sector clients.

At a time of accelerating biodiversity loss globally—and with the Middle East facing unique pressures from rapid development, water scarcity and habitat fragmentation— there is a real opportunity to shift the focus from compliance to impact. Anthesis provides the perfect platform for working with clients on what comes next: understanding nature‑related risks and opportunities, delivering biodiversity value on the ground, and scaling practical, region‑appropriate nature‑based solutions. Leading the ecology and nature team allows me toĀ  collaborate with great teams to help turn ambition into action and deliver outcomes that strengthen ecological resilience over the long term.
