Summary of role:

Carbon Project Development Team

Carbon credits form a critical role to provide (private) financing to project developers all over the world, which are not able to attract finance in another way.

CNGs Carbon Project Development Team is at the forefront of developing and managing carbon offset projects. Priority is given to natural sequestration through agricultural and Nature-Based Solutions (such as mangrove restauration). In addition CNG also focusses on renewable energy and waste management as these are critical for short term GHG emission reduction. The team guides project owners and developers from project inception to the issuing of carbon credits in line with official carbon standards, mainly Gold Standard for the Global Goals and Verra’s Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS).

As the Carbon originator you will assess, identify and contract carbon sequestration and emission reduction opportunities in the best geographies (focus on Southern & Eastern Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe) and segments (agriculture, methane capture/ reduction, Nature Based Solutions, mangrove/ forest rehabilitation). You will build partnerships, co-design, and formalize collaborations through agreements (LOI, MOU, partnership agreements etc.), then guide the handover to the carbon project development team who can then develop projects that result in carbon credits.

Key requirements:

  • You hold a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree with at least 5 years of experience in business development, origination, consultative selling or similar
  • You have experience and interest in one or more of the following sectors: (regenerative) agriculture, (re)forestation, waste management
  • Experience in carbon credit development is beneficial, but not essential
  • You are an empathic person, a team player, and have a proven track record in developing authentic relationships and building win-win partnerships, and then developing and implementing innovative solutions to problems
  • You are entrepreneurial and self-propelling and have a hands-on approach with the ability to adapt to different teams, stakeholders and ways of working
  • You are analytical and structured, and project management minded
  • You can translate complex partner issues into practical solutions and contracts
  • You speak English fluently, and mastering another language is a plus (e.g. Spanish, French, Portuguese or other).

Desirable:

  • Passion for delivering value to clients and solving messy real-world problems
  • The ability to organize yourself and others in an unstructured environment
  • Preference to operating in an open/honest work environment
  • A love of learning
  • A desire to have a positive impact on something greater than you can achieve alone, being a part of the team, which is changing the world
