René Toet is an entrepreneur specialising in climate change, carbon trading, renewable energy, and business management. He built his business expertise through challenging roles in the FMCG sector, including at Unilever. Recognising early in his career the profound implications of climate change for both people and the planet, René committed his skills and experience to driving climate solutions. Over the past 15 years, his work has demonstrated that healthy, future-proof businesses thrive when aligned with climate responsibility.
As Managing Director of Climate Neutral Group, René transformed the Dutch organisation into an international consulting and offsetting company with a systematic approach to achieving Zero CO₂, fully aligned with the Paris Agreement. He spearheaded the development of decarbonisation strategies, curated high-impact offsetting portfolios, and advanced carbon projects in regenerative agriculture. Notably, he launched the Climate Neutral Certification Programme—the first climate-neutral standard with a mandatory reduction component—recognised by ISEAL.
In 2021, Climate Neutral Group merged with Anthesis Group to amplify its global climate impact. Since 2022, René has served on the Anthesis Global Leadership Team. As Chief Delivery Officer, René leads a worldwide team of subject matter experts across four critical transitions: Decarbonization, Circularity, Regeneration, and Empowerment.
René is also a former Co-Chair of the Policy and Advocacy Group and a Founding Partner of ICROA. A strong advocate for the Voluntary Carbon Market, he actively engages in several influential business networks.
