GreenBiz 21 was virtual this year, and while we missed getting to connect with sustainability colleagues in person in Phoenix, Arizona, the virtual conference still provided the high quality of insights shared by industry professionals that GreenBiz is known for. Furthermore, the virtual format likely enabled more experts to participate from around the world than would otherwise have been able to.
Anthesis is proud to have led three sessions in the GreenBiz 21 program, joined by top tier practitioners. Our experts led a live interactive expo session, hosted a virtual roundtable, and organized a breakout session panel. In each of these three formats, we were gratified to interact with a highly engaged audience asking meaningful questions. Here we provide a summary of the content we shared and three takeaway videos from our GreenBiz delegates.

Expo Session – Going from SBTs to Net Zero: Actions by Sector
Anthesis Executive Director George Favaloro and Anthesis Principal Consultant Skye Lei led this interactive expo session. George and Skye guided participants through a framework for understanding the tools available for going beyond Science Based Targets to close the remaining gap in emissions reduction to meet a net zero target. Additionally, George and Skye discuss how these tools and actions can be prioritized based on a company’s sector.
In one of many key points shared, George offered the following advice:
“To maximize the impact of your net zero strategy, start investments in value chain carbon reduction technologies as soon as possible. Investments made now will force learning and make future achievement possible.” – |

Roundtable – Creating Packaging Baselines and Goal-setting
Anthesis Executive Director Lisa Grice moderated a conversation with Anthesis Director Debbie Hitchen and Nira Johri, Director of Global Diversity & Sustainability at Rich’s Products Corporation. Debbie and Nira shared their experiences from working together to create a packaging baseline and goals for Rich’s Products Corporation. Nira shared lessons she learned and advice for companies starting out on in tackling their own packaging goals.
Debbie shared this advice for companies getting started:
“To create a useful packaging baseline, ask how you’ll use the data to drive business decision-making. If you look at your hotspots, you’ll see where you have the maximum potential to gain.” – |

Breakout Session – Strategies for Scope 3 Supplier Engagement Towards Net Zero Ambitions
“The closer we can work with our retail partners, the quicker we’ll advance our shared goals, on everything from GHG to packaging and plastics. There’s such a close relationship between what the retailer needs and what we’re choosing to invest in.” – |
