Generating credits with carbon projects

Our international Carbon Project Development team works to help meet the growing demand for offsetting and to ensure our projects have the highest impact. Our expertise spans both portfolio management, meaning buying and selling offsets on behalf of our clients, as well as carbon project development.

We develop projects to provide carbon credits to a portfolio across 4 key themes: Mangroves/Blue carbon, Water and sanitation, Methane from landfill gas, and Regenerative agriculture.

We always approach projects in a holistic manner. This means that animals and livelihoods are always considered, as well as the atmosphere, nature, economy, local communities, the current and future state of ecosystems, and the beneficial effects for people. So, these projects have been developed in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, meaning that they not only facilitate investment in credible carbon project, also known as offsetting; all these also support local communities across the world.

Our Projects

The restoration of mangroves, also called blue carbon, is very important for the climate. Mangroves can store four times more carbon than rainforests can. Next to carbon storage they serve as storm barriers for coastal protection. Mangroves are hotspots for biodiversity, serving as nurseries for fish and as clean water filters.

We’re setting up carbon programmes on mangrove restoration and conservation in the south of Brazil together with the local NGO Çarakura Institute. They work closely with local communities, indigenous people, and authorities; an important condition for projects to succeed.

Methane is a greenhouse gas (GHG), so its presence in the atmosphere affects the earth’s temperature and climate system. It is the second most dominant GHG after carbon dioxide (CO₂), accounting for about 20 percent of global emissions and more than 25 times as potent as carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere.

Over the last two centuries, methane concentrations in the atmosphere have more than doubled, largely due to human-related activities. In line with the US and EU methane pledge at the COP26 in Glasgow, we are committed to developing landfill gas extraction projects where methane is captured and used to generate power.

Rotational grazing, cover cropping, reduced tillage, and other practices improve soil quality and the farmer’s bottom line. Increased soil organic carbon and reduced greenhouse gas emissions from these practices can also generate carbon credits of the highest quality.

Our AgriCarbon programmes pay farmers for the carbon credits they generate from practicing sustainable land management.
Together with Ruuts, a Latin American start-up, we are working on large-scale land regeneration with regenerative agriculture in a project called SARA.
