Home – Case Studies – ESG Due Diligence for a Real Estate Company
The Situation
We conducted a comprehensive ESG review of publicly available information related to the subject and its subsidiaries. This included searches of court, corporate, and regulatory filings in Australia and the UK; social media, press sources, media archives, and blogs in multiple languages; social and business networking platforms; proprietary, commercial, and legal data aggregators; and sanctions and watch lists.
Our goal was to assess the target’s ESG risks using a three-pronged approach: identifying material ESG topics using the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) materiality finder, establishing public disclosures on these issues, and reviewing independent sources to evaluate the company’s track record.
Our Solutions
To conduct the GRESB gap analysis, we reviewed the client’s policies, procedures, and ESG performance data detailed in the Virtual Data Room, supplemented by an interview with the client’s director of operations for Asia.
We compared the client’s data to the maximum possible scoring outlined within GRESB’s official scoring guidance and standards documents.
Additionally, we analyzed human and labor rights risks in the materials supply chain of a listed real estate firm by reviewing sourcing policies, mapping supply chains, and conducting public domain checks on main suppliers. Sources for this research included publications by international organizations such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and UN Environment Programme, reports by international NGOs like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, academic publications, industry reports, blogs, and social media.
