Located in Germany, this pioneering project uses industrial-scale pyrolysis plants to convert biomass into high-quality biochar. Pyrolysis involves heating organic residues in the absence of oxygen, producing a carbon-rich material that is resistant to decomposition.
Once applied to soil, biochar acts as a long-lived carbon sink, permanently storing carbon while also improving soil structure, nutrient retention, and water-holding capacity.
