Henry Boot PLC has developed a strategy framework to achieve net zero carbon for all direct greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
With a group of approximately 500 employees, Henry Boot has been operating in land, property, and development for 135 years. The Net Zero Carbon Framework is a critical element in the first phase of Henry Boot’s Responsible Business Strategy, ‘135 Henry Boot’.
Henry Boot’s Net Zero Carbon Framework objectives include:
- To achieve Net Zero carbon for directly controlled GHG emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2030.
- To enhance understanding of the business’ indirectly controlled emissions and deliver reduction solutions.
- To empower its people and partners to take positive action to collaboratively decarbonise.
Anthesis supported the development of Henry Boot’s Net Zero Carbon Framework, including setting carbon reduction targets to achieve Net Zero by 2030.
By collaborating with Henry Boot to evaluate existing greenhouse gas emissions in operations and business growth forecasts, Anthesis modelled an emissions reduction trajectory and the strategies needed to achieve Net Zero. The resulting framework defines a pathway to achieve their goals for direct greenhouse gas emission reductions by 2030, empower its stakeholders to collaboratively decarbonise, and lays the foundation for the business to understand and tackle its indirect scope 3 emissions.
“The Group’s Net Zero Carbon Framework demonstrates our firm commitment to reducing our environmental impact. Since 2013, we have reduced our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25%, however we recognised it was time for greater action in order to effectively tackle the significant challenge of climate change. Thanks to Anthesis’ support, we have been to develop a NZC framework which has set clear carbon reduction targets for 2030.”
Tony Shaw, Managing Director at Henry Boot Construction
Amy Dartington, Associate Director at Anthesis and lead on this project said: “Henry Boot has a challenging emissions portfolio to tackle but never shield away from addressing the difficult challenges and setting ambitious targets. The construction sector has a huge role to play in addressing around 40% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions associated with the built environment and it is encouraging to see businesses like Henry Boot take decisive climate change action. This project will help Henry Boot achieve its direct emissions goals by 2030 and it is positive to see such proactivity in this sector and the drive to support the UK achieve its 2050 net zero carbon goals”.
From analytics to implementation, Anthesis is uniquely placed to help businesses achieve their Net Zero targets whilst also maximising return on investment and unlocking new revenue for businesses. Anthesis supports businesses to reach Net Zero through a strategic framework which focuses on four key areas: Avoid, Reduce, Invest and Innovate. The framework is aligned with the SBTi’s best practice for science-based Net-Zero target setting.
