Developing a Comprehensive Scope 3 Inventory for Fanatics

The Situation

Fanatics approached Anthesis after facing challenges in the past with calculating their Scope 3 emissions. They needed a robust and transparent methodology to accurately assess their Scope 3 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory, with a particular focus on Purchased Goods and Services (PG&S).

Fanatics sought clarity on emissions across their fibre portfolio, brands, suppliers, and team leagues, and required a solution that could be reliably repeated in future years.

Solution

Anthesis developed a comprehensive Scope 3 GHG inventory for Fanatics, aligned with the GHG Protocol, using a combination of primary data sources and robust emission factors.

Using purchase order (PO) data, Anthesis calculated PG&S emissions across tiers 1-4 by combining primary data from Higg FEM with emission factors from Higg MSI. Product quantities and material compositions from the PO data were mapped to Higg datasets to generate a granular and accurate emissions profile across the supply chain.

In addition, Anthesis assessed all other relevant Scope 3 categories and compiled a full methodology into a detailed Inventory Management Plan (IMP) to support future replication and internal understanding.

The Anthesis team helped Fanatics set a strong foundation for climate action and regulatory readiness through a clear and replicable report of scope 3 emissions.

Impacts

Clear Data Insights

Fanatics now have a clear and accurate view of their Scope 3 emissions, including a breakdown of their fibre portfolio and identification of emissions hotspots across suppliers and product types. Furthermore, by combining Higg FEM and Higg MSI with PO-level data, Fanatics gains a tiered view of their emissions – from raw material extraction (Tier 4) through to finished goods (Tier 1).

Targeted Future Action

This level of insight, previously unavailable, enables targeted action on emission hotspots and supports strategic decision-making for future reduction efforts. The comprehensive Inventory Management Plan also ensures consistency and transparency in future reporting cycles.
