A Decarbonisation Roadmap to Achieve Net Zero in the Apparel Industry

Situation

A multinational premium apparel retailer with a global supplier base committed to a net zero pathway (90% reduction in emissions by 2050) through the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action (FICCA).

The company commissioned Anthesis to develop a decarbonisation roadmap of priority GHG emission reduction levers available in its journey towards net zero emissions.

Solution

Anthesis assembled a cross-functional team of subject matter experts to identify, quantify, cost, and prioritize levers for decarbonisation.

With a focus on impactful stakeholder engagement to enable strategic change management for the client, Anthesis provided:

  • A detailed roadmap of 20 key reduction initiatives that included key tasks, emissions impact, financial impact, feasibility analyses, KPbIs, and implementation considerations for short-, mid-, and long-term planning. These initiatives spanned 5 priority areas for the business: product materials, product manufacturing, packaging, real estate, and transportation.
  • An action plan, governance structure, and data collection improvement recommendations to provide tactical near-term steps across business functions, supporting the client in building internal capacity to increase the feasibility of the net zero pathway.
  • A decarbonisation model and tool with documented assumptions, as well as availability to run scenarios on aspects of the proposed actions.

Impact

With our decarbonisation roadmap in hand, the company has been able to:

  • Empower key internal stakeholders across corporate functions to lead the implementation of key decarbonisation levers.
  • Further develop strategic planning and implementation of decarbonisation measures needed to achieve net zero by 2050 and meet its UN FICCA commitment.
  • Inform financial and risk planning to align on climate action.
