SBTi Opens Second Consultation on Its Revised Corporate Net-Zero Standard

6 November 2025

Associate Director

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has launched the second public consultation on its updated Corporate Net-Zero Standard – marking an important milestone in helping organisations transition from climate commitments to credible, measurable action.

Building on feedback from more than 1,000 organisations, the revised draft provides clearer guidance to support companies in translating their ambition into delivery, ensuring that near- and mid-term actions align with a 1.5°C pathway and contribute meaningfully to global decarbonisation.

Key updates include:

  • A simplified, more practical structure for implementation across sectors and regions
  • Stronger expectations for transparency and disclosure through transition plans and progress reporting
  • Continued focus on long-term Net Zero commitments as well as near-term separate targets, with expanded science-based emissions reduction options and recognition for early action
  • Integration of decarbonisation efforts and responsibility for ongoing emissions through a clearer framework.

The consultation runs until 8 December 2025, with pilot testing underway across 50 companies.
