Home – Solutions – Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) – Due Diligence
Anthesis offers market-leading ESG due diligence, providing an unrivalled breadth of expertise that can be delivered globally. Whether at pre-acquisition or pre-divestiture, we help clients reduce risk and unlock value. Our due diligence services are part of our broader ESG advisory offering, providing complementary support to onboard acquisitions and identify and deliver ESG performance improvements during ownership.
ESG due diligence – A full-scope ESG health check that provides both a detailed assessment of a Target’s most material topics and a broader view of typical ESG management issues, providing a gap analysis and maturity score. This can be delivered pre- or post-acquisition, with varying levels of disclosure and access to management.
Integrity due diligence – A discreet investigation into a Target’s business ethics and likely controversies involving senior leadership or ownership. Available as a standalone service or a deeper dive into an identified risk.
Vendor due diligence – In-depth ESG and EHS reviews of a company’s programs and performance. This proactive approach helps sellers demonstrate the value of their ESG initiatives to potential buyers, addressing concerns and enhancing the attractiveness of the asset during transactions.
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) due diligence – A focused assessment of liability and risk topics, such as the presence of contaminated land and asbestos materials, and compliance with current and forthcoming EHS regulations. Delivered at a company-wide or site-specific level, including Phase I & II assessments.
International finance environmental & social due diligence – Assessments tailored to meet the specific requirements of IFC, World Bank, and other international sponsors.
Specialist due diligence services – In addition to our core ESG due diligence, or as a “deep dive”, Anthesis can offer a range of specialist due diligence services.
As required, our scopes increasingly include assessments of alignment with key regulations and frameworks, such as the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and Taxonomy, and broader evaluations of the positive and negative environmental and social impact a Target company may have and the related value creation potential.
In addition to our core ESG due diligence, or as a “deep dive”, Anthesis can offer a range of specialist due diligence services, including:
An evaluation of a Target’s culture and therefore workplace atmosphere and environment. Delivered as a standalone or deeper dive into an identified risk, the assessment can highlight risks, such as toxic workplace environments, and opportunities, such as the scalability of the culture in a people-focussed business.
A costed assessment of a Target’s ability to meet a science-based target. We analyse GHG emissions and outline key decarbonisation levers, including CapEx, OpEx, cost savings, and Net Present Value, drawing from a data lake of over 250,000 costed levers.
An assessment of climate-related impacts, risks, and opportunities, both physical and from the transition to a low carbon economy, to help clients to develop resilience strategies.
An assessment of potential risks and opportunities, ensuring that current real assets and developments align with regulatory requirements, sustainability standards, and market expectations. Our approach integrates ESG considerations to future-proof assets and create long-term value.
An assessment of human rights risks and impacts to people and society at a Target and/or its value chain, in alignment with the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights (UNGPs).
An evaluation of human rights and broader ESG risks within a Target’s supply chain. We identify and prioritise risks in complex supply chains (e.g. in high-risk sectors or regions), and assess critical suppliers’ policies and track records.
